Protect Our Forests – Make the Ban Permanent
The Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan and Environment Minister Steve Dimopoulos must take the next critical step to protect East Gippsland’s forests—by legislating a permanent ban on native forest logging.
These forests sustain wildlife, clean our air, store carbon, and support nearly a third of Victoria’s biodiversity. Yet, without legal protection, they remain at risk. The Victorian Coalition has already indicated their intention to reinstate logging if elected in 2026, threatening to undo hard-won progress and return to an industry that has long been financially and environmentally unsustainable.
On the Errinundra Plateau, you’ll find the largest remaining tract of cool temperate rainforest on mainland Australia—an irreplaceable gem. Decades of industrial logging and the devastating 2019-20 bushfires have left these ecosystems vulnerable. Now is the time to secure lasting protections and invest in a future that values forests for their true worth—not as woodchips, but as living, breathing landscapes essential to our climate and biodiversity.
